Nagpur, the winter capital of the state of Maharashtra is also the largest city in central India. Popularly known as “Orange City”, it is home to one of the juiciest varieties of Oranges which are grown in its several orchards in and around the city. Nagpur also leaves its mark as the center of India which is identified with the “Zero Mile” marker.

Nagpur – literally meaning “The abode of serpent God Nag” is named so after the River Nag which flows through a serpentine path through the city. This is further stamped by on the city’s postal stamp which has the image of a snake on it.

It was said by the great Dr. B.R Ambedkar, that the people of Nagpur belonged to the Nag Dynasty, who were followers of Lord Buddha. The present day city was founded by Bhakt Buland, an erstwhile prince of the region in 18th century.

Nagpur is renowned for its rich heritage & is known as a cultural, commercial, political and industrial centre in the Maratha region. Crowned with an illustrious history, the present day Nagpur is one of the power centers of Indian and Maratha politics. With the headquarters of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Reshimbagh, Nagpur is hub of the political activities in the state.

Nagpur is also famous for its education centers. It is renowned for its universities and an elite group of scholar communities who have come out shining from add to its list of credits. Present day Nagpur thrives on industrial developments & agriculture with the major crops including cotton, sugarcane, spices and jowar.

Nagpur is home to several important tourist attractions like the Pench National Park, the mammoth stupa at Deeksha Bhoomi and the temple of Sri Podeshwar Ram. Historically Nagpur has been renowned for its hospitality & has over the years embraced thousands of tourists with its versatile lakes, picturesque gardens, lush green forests and luxurious amenities for travelers.
